Mayor Kelly Resignation
The City of Yutan would like to address the concerns about Mayor Mike Kelly’s resignation. On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Mayor Mike Kelly unexpectedly resigned as Mayor of Yutan. When this happens the Council president steps into this position as interim mayor until appointed by the City Council at the next regular meeting. Our current Council President Matt Thompson will be interim Mayor until the May 21, 2024, Council Meeting where he will be appointed the new Mayor of Yutan to finish out former Mayor Mike Kelly’s term. At that point there will be an open council seat and a new member will be appointed at the June 18, 2024 Council meeting. An official posting of the council seat will be done following the May 21st, 2024 regular meeting. Any registered voter from the east ward interested in filling vacant council position will be given consideration. Details on the council appointment will be posted following the May 21st meeting at the city office, bank, and post office.

Members of the City Council,
It is with great regret that l am rendering my resignation as the Mayor of Yutan as of May 1st, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. due to both personal issues and the lack of support from the City Council in the recent issues with the library Director questioning my integrity. It is in my opinion that the lack of investigation by the City Council into the allegations brought against me, and instead asking her what she wanted for benefits, allows this employee to get by with defaming my integrity and character. I, in the two years of service on the Council and year and a half as Mayor have put my relationships with my son in-laws in question because I refuse to give them preferential treatment. For these reasons, I have chosen to end my term early. I will continue to pray for guidance for each of you on the council and I hope that you never have your integrity questioned like I did.
Good luck and God bless,
Mike Kelly
