Now Hiring: Utilities Assistant-City of Yutan

The City of Yutan is looking for a dedicated and versatile Utilities Assistant to support our community's essential infrastructure. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, as it covers everything from park maintenance to water and street operations.


Compensation & Financial Benefits

  • Base Pay Range: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on your qualifications.

  • Certification Bonuses: Earn an additional $0.50 per hour for each maintained certification: Water Operator Grade 4, Lagoon Wastewater Operator Grade 1, and Nebraska Commercial Applicators.

     

  • Emergency Pay: Public Works staff receive a minimum of two hours of regular pay for responding to utility emergencies.

     

  • Retirement: Participate in our 457B plan with a City match of up to 5% of your gross earnings.

Core Responsibilities

This position performs critical duties across several key departments:

Water Department: Maintain the water tower and grounds, assist with well repairs, and perform state-mandated quality testing.

  • Sewer Department: Support lagoon maintenance and discharge, lift station compliance, and sewer line repairs.

  • Parks & Athletics: Handle mowing, fertilizing, and weed control for parks. You will also maintain splash pads/sprinklers and prep athletic fields for games.

  • Street Department: Manage snow removal operations and assist with daily street maintenance, including pothole repairs.

  • Shared Operations: Assist with meter reading, "late hangers," and general maintenance of shop equipment and mowers.

Comprehensive Health & Leave

  • Insurance: The City contributes $500 monthly toward health and dental premiums.

  • Cash in Lieu: If you have qualifying external coverage, you can opt for a payment of $230.77 per pay period ($6,000 annually).

  • Paid Time Off: Full-time staff accrue 12 days of PTO and 40 hours of sick leave annually.

  • Holidays: We observe all federal holidays plus three 8-hour floating holidays.

  • Security: Full-time employees receive a $50,000 life insurance policy and disability coverage.

Professional Growth & Requirements

  • Certifications: You must be able to obtain your Water Operator Grade 4 and Lagoon Wastewater Operator Grade 1 certifications within your first year of employment.

  • Gear: We provide uniforms at no cost and an annual $200 allowance for boots or winter gear.

  • Education: The City offers up to 100% tuition reimbursement for work-related courses (requires a two-year commitment post-completion).
